Safety Supervisor is responsible for coordinating/directing health & safety activities for facility or functional areas to eliminate industrial accidents.
Advises management on continued development of safety and health culture
Provides direction, trains, develops and evaluates employees
Assists in the implementation and interprets the safety and health provisions of local and national labor agreements
Facilitates the investigation of accidents and/or injuries; conducts safety audits, surveys, and inspections to verify appropriate compliance
Maintains awareness of state and federal safety regulations; corporate polices and procedures regarding safety and industrial health
Develops and implements programs to reduce job related injuries
Meets with local union representative and leads in resolution of safety matters
Designs, implements, administration of site safety rules and instructions
Reviews and approves new equipment and methods for potential hazards
Analyzes safety statistics and develops recommendation with consultation of customers
Trains leadership in safety related processes and assists supervisors in the safety training of employees
Provide technical guidance to management on Health & Safety Issues
Participating in Health & Safety committees
Provide site leadership on health and safety performance standards
Maintain positive relationships with local union leadership and management
Accompany compliance officers and prepares required data
Demonstrates complete job knowledge and understanding of assigned work area
Takes input from employees, addresses work-related issues and provides feedback to employees on their concerns.
Qualifications
Basic Required
Strong interpersonal skills including facilitation, negotiation and problem resolution
Demonstrated ability influence at the leadership level
Ability to build trust and respect at all levels of the organization
Ability to work independently, take initiative, set and execute to work plans
Demonstrated strong analytical, organizational, prioritization and project management skills
Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Discretion in dealing with highly confidential matters
Proficient in MS Office and related software programs
Understanding of OHSMS 18001 Safety Management System
Safety Certifications as required
5
years experience of safety in a manufacturing environment required
Basic Preferred
Prior experience in a skilled trades environment strongly preferred
Education
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety/Industrial Hygiene, Engineering Degree or equivalent experience
